Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity and Expression (SOGIE)

Resources for staff on delivering inclusive health services to 2SLGBTQIA+ individuals facing cancer.

What is the SOGIE Working Group?

The BC Cancer SOGIE Working Group was founded in 2018 by staff volunteers and the Patient Experience department. The purpose of this working group is to develop long-term plans to increase SOGIE safety and knowledge, and decrease violence, humiliation, and discrimination against patients, aligning with other PHSA work on discrimination & equity.

The SOGIE Working Group has presented sessions and posters at the BC Cancer Summits, advised on inclusive language on the BC Cancer website and CST Cerner, created staff and patient resource handouts, and more.
