National LGBT Cancer NetworkThis US website provides information about cancer for gay and bisexual men, lesbian and bisexual women and transgender persons. It also provides an online support group and cultural competence training for healthcare professionals.
Proud, Prepared, and Protected (Canadian Virtual Hospice)Online resources to assist people who identify as 2SLGBTQIA+ to access and receive inclusive, respectful care.
Queering CancerProvides links to online resources of interest to the 2SLGBTQIA+ community, a community forum and stories from 2SLGBTQIA+ people affected by cancer.
Trans Care BCTrans Care BC supports the delivery of equitable and accessible care, surgical planning, and peer and community support for trans people across BC.
Support programs
This is a list of support programs offered by community organizations and BC Cancer. You can find more support programs offered at each BC Cancer centre and in the community on the BC Cancer website.
BC Cancer Patient & Family CounsellingAvailable to anyone in B.C. who has a cancer diagnosis, as well as those supporting them. Counselling available for individuals, couples, and families, either in-person or over the phone. Services are solution-focused and are limited to addressing challenges related to cancer.
CancerConnection.caAn online community for cancer patients, caregivers, friends and family. A safe place to connect and find support. Regular webcasts are available on demand on a series of topics relevant to people with cancer including physical activity, relationships and complementary therapies.
Catherine White Holman Wellness CentreProvide free low-barrier wellness and legal services to Two-Sprit, transgender and gender non-conforming people.
National LGBT Cancer Network Support GroupsFree Zoom groups for 2SLGBTQIA+ people who have and have had cancer.
Prism (Vancouver Coastal Health)Prism refers individuals to 2SLGBTQIA+ groups, counselling, resource information and services in the community. Call 604.331.8900 for information.
Prostate Cancer Support Group for Gay Men (Malecare)ZOOM virtual, call-in support groups for gay men and their partners.
Trans Care BC Support ServicesSpeak with a health navigator at 1.866.999.1514. The website provides a directory of peer support groups and services across BC.
Wellspring Gay and Queer Men's Cancer Support GroupVirtual support group for gay and queer men with cancer and their male partners. Meets once a month via Zoom.
Community services locator
The Canadian Cancer Society community services locator is a directory that helps cancer patients, survivors, family and caregivers find the services they need.
Resources found in these Pathfinders have been chosen and evaluated by BC Cancer librarians with input from other BC Cancer staff members. Suggestions for additional resources for inclusion are welcome; however, the Library reserves the final right to decide which websites and resources will be included. Resources are reviewed on a regular basis, however, the Library cannot guarantee the function, accuracy, or currency of the websites and the information contained within them.
The BC Cancer library system consists of a central library at Vancouver Centre (VC), and branches in Abbotsford (AC), Kelowna (SAHCSI), Prince George (CN), Surrey (FVC), and Victoria (VIC). All centres have patient resource collections in our Cancer Information Centres (CIC), and all centres have a professional collection on site. Professional resources for CN are housed in the adjacent UHNBC Library.
