Copyright Guide

Use & creation of materials at BC Cancer

Copyright

Copyright protects created works, such as music, film or video, and writing. Copyright law makes it illegal to reproduce, copy, sell, or make a profit from someone else's creative intellectual property.

Can I use this?

Sadly, the answer is: "It depends."

  • FAQ : the questions BC Cancer staff have asked, with really short answers
  • Fair Dealing : personal use that is allowed by Canadian copyright law
  • Permissions & Licensing : using material beyond  Fair Dealing
  • Images & Audiovisuals : special resources for illustrations etc.
  • Open Access : what is Open Access? Free to use? Public Domain? Creative Commons?
  • Your Work : copyright for things you have created
