Support programs
This is a list of support programs offered by community organizations and BC Cancer. You can find more support programs offered at each BC Cancer centre and in the community on the BC Cancer website.
BC Cancer Patient & Family CounsellingAvailable to anyone in B.C. who has a cancer diagnosis, as well as those supporting them. Counselling available for individuals, couples, and families, either in-person or over the phone. Services are solution-focused and are limited to addressing challenges related to cancer.
CancerConnection.caAn online community for cancer patients, caregivers, friends and family. A safe place to connect and find support. Regular webcasts are available on demand on a series of topics relevant to people with cancer including physical activity, relationships and complementary therapies.
Island Prostate CentreResources include a nurse navigator program (in person, by phone or online) to help answer your questions, discuss your treatment options, and support you in your journey; a cancer recovery exercise program, and a walking group. Call 1.866.388.0214 for information.
Prostate Cancer Foundation Canada Support GroupsWebsite provides a list of support groups in Canada and patients can request a free "Reef Knot" kit that includes books about prostate cancer.
Prostate Cancer Supportive Care ProgramA comprehensive survivorship program for men with prostate cancer, their partners and families from the time of diagnosis onwards, which provides support with treatment decision making, rehabilitation needs post-treatment and lifestyle management.
SIRvivor BC (Prostate Cancer Supportive Care Program)SIRvivor BC is a specialized exercise program for men 19 years of age or older who have been diagnosed with prostate cancer, in any stage of treatment or recovery and at any fitness level, ability and background. It runs for 6 to 12 weeks, consisting of 2 one-hour sessions each week. Virtual and in-person sessions available. There is a fee charged.
True NorthA free navigation program that puts you in touch with someone who has experienced prostate cancer and is trained to support you along your journey.

The BC Cancer library system consists of a central library at Vancouver Centre, and branches in Abbotsford, Kelowna, Prince George, and Victoria where both patient and professional collections are available on site. Librarian staff are available at all centres, including Surrey.
